There is a common problem with shift solenoids on these cars going bad. You should get a code on the computer if that is the case. I would recommend having the transmission flushed by a certified mechanic. They have a special system they can hook up and flush the fluid out of the torque converter and they will be able to examine the old fluid for a damaged transmission.
