If you are in the market for a used Jeep vehicle, you may want to check out cars under their certified pre-owned program. Many manufacturers have a certified pre-owned (CPO) program, and each one is set up differently. Read on to learn about the specifics of the Jeep CPO program.
Jeep Certified Pre-Owned cars must be no more than five years old, and have less than 75,000 miles. Vehicles covered by this program come complete with an extended six year/100,000 Powertrain Limited Warranty.
Inspection
In order to ensure that all Certified Pre-Owned Vehicles are safe to drive, Jeep subjects all CPO vehicles to a 125-point inspection that includes all the major mechanical, electrical, and exterior systems of the vehicle, as well as a detailing of the interior. If any part does not meet the standards of Jeep’s inspection technicians, and cannot be repaired or replaced so that it will pass the inspection, that vehicle cannot become a Certified Pre-Owned vehicle.
Warranty
Jeep CPO vehicles come with a Powertrain Limited Warranty, which covers repairs or replacements of major engine, drive system, and transmission components for six years or 100,000 miles, whichever comes first. This is on top of the standard three-month, 3,000-mile bumper-to-bumper warranty, which covers the entire vehicle for either three months or 3,000 miles (whichever comes first). This warranty requires a $100 deductible for each service visit.
The warranty also includes certain benefits including:
A complete CARFAX vehicle history report including the service record.
A three-month trial subscription of SiriusXM Satellite Radio’s All Access package.
A 24-hour roadside assistance program.
A reimbursement program that covers the cost of a rental car in the event that repairs keep your vehicle from being drivable for more than one day.
Pricing
Purchasing a Certified Pre-Owned Jeep vehicle instead of a used vehicle can make a difference in the price at most dealerships. The bottom line will usually be around 8% higher than a regular “used” vehicle.
For example, at the time of writing this article in April 2016, a used 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo is valued at $21,745 on Kelley Blue Book; the same vehicle is valued at $22,720 under the Jeep CPO program.
Compare Jeep to Other Certified Pre-Owned Car Programs
Whether you decide to go with a CPO car, it's always wise to have an independent certified mechanic inspect any used car before buying it. Certified Pre-Owned does not mean the car is in perfect condition, and any used car can come with serious issues that aren't apparent to an untrained eye. If you're in the market to buy a used car, schedule a pre-purchase inspection for total peace of mind.
