Q: Is it ok to switch from synthetic oil back to regular oil?

asked by on January 10, 2017

Does it harm yor car to switch between regular and synthetic oil?

If the vehicle requires that synthetic oil be used, I would recommend always using synthetic oil. If the vehicle does not require synthetic oil, I would only use what is required as money can be saved throughout the life of the vehicle by not buying high dollar oil when you dont need to. That being said, if synthetic oil has been used, it is ok to switch back to regular oil. However, I would not recommend switching back and forth all the time. Choose one type of oil and stick with it. Switching back and forth between regular and synthetic oil can cause the vehicle to burn or leak oil.

Car not cranking
Hello. If your engine will not crank the most common cause is the battery. The battery should be load tested to see if it is bad. If the battery is fine, then I typically test for voltage at the small...
Have a leak from upper or lower radiator hose.
I would recommend looking at either hose to determine which hose the leak is coming from with the car running as this will pressurize the system and force water to the leaking point. Consider scheduling an appointment with one of...
My car loses power while I am trying to accelerate. It will not reach the next gear.
Hello. With the amount of information, there are a limited number of suggestions. My truck shakes while idling when the heat, AC and in-cab fan are on
This may be a sign of a faulty MAP sensor (https://www.yourmechanic.com/services/manifold-absolute-pressure-sensor-map-sensor-replacement). The Manifold Absolute Pressure (MAP) sensor senses engine load and generates a signal that is proportional to the amount of vacuum in the intake manifold. The engine computer then...
When I start my car, it shakes and smells like gas.

My 2005 MBZ SL500's dimming rear view mirror stays dark in daylight unless I turn on the adjacent overhead light.
What you are describing is likely a consequence of a failure of the ambient light sensor on the forward facing part of the mirror, although check to be sure that the light sensor is not somehow "blocked". The sensor is...
