My veloster 2013 makes the reverse noise sound when going forwards Mechanic's Assistant: Are you fixing your Veloster yourself? What have you tried so far? No, these are new symptoms

Hello this is Zach and I will assist you today. You may receive an automated message for a phone call, it is an optional service.I see you are having a noise issue in your veloster. Your veloster has the dual clutch transmission, and is internally lubricated with gear oil. Can you check for leaks please. And how does the transmission shift while driving? Does it shift normally? Any really long shifts, or hesitations?

hi zach, no visible leaks, parking bay always clean. however did notice some hesitation for gear to engage at timessorry cant call
Automotive Expert
Ok thank you for the information. If you put the car in park or neutral and rev it, does it make the same noise? And for the hesitation for engaging gears. It sounds like the transmission needs a relearn. As more and more miles are put on the car, the dual clutch disks begin to wear down a little at a time. The dual clutch computer automatically compensates for the wear to a degree. Once you physically feel its not shifting normally, it needs a to be recalibrated.Ok that is ok, we can continue on chat. That is an automatically generated pop up.

in neutral no, last visit to the shop i was told i needed the following VIN# \*\*\*\*\* VELOSTERDIFFERENTIAL BEARING \*2SPIDER GEAR \*2 BIG \*2 SMALLSPIDER GEAR WASHER \*2 BIG \*2 SMALL INPUT SHAFT BEARING \*2OUTPUT SHAFT BEARING \*2havent got the spares yet

I apologize i didn't ask this sooner. Is it a manual transmission or is it the automatic/dual clutch. I should have asked that first im sorry.

manualis this noise related to the gear box
Automotive Expert
Ok thank you. From the parts list you provided, it sounds like the differential is causing your noise. And once they open up the transmission, they are going to replace all of the bearings.

does the car have a dashboard warning light for low gear box oil?is there a danger of the car ceasing?
Automotive Expert
No it does not have a warning light unfortunately. Since it is only making noise when you are moving its related to the gear box. There is a danger of that. From my experience, when the bearings began to go internally in a manual trans, if let go for too long it can cause damage to other parts or rhe transmission case itself.I have one more question about your noise, one moment while I type.To rule out the throwout bearing...It makes no noise while sitting still and reving. When you are in 1st with the clutch in, and begin to pull out, do you hear a growl as the clutch pedal is let up?And when you are driving, WHERE IT IS SAFE TO DO SO!!! If you cost in neutral does it still make the noise?

for the first, the answer is yes. i need to try out the other
Automotive Expert
Ok how about if you have the shifter in neutral, and depress the clutch pedal and slowly let it up. Can you faintly hear the noise while do that?

one more thing, the whinning noise just started today but the car has been making a knocking sound lately, even in idle.
Automotive Expert
Oh no! Ok unfortunately that is engine related. Are you the original owner, and how many miles are on it?

i am and there is about 120,000 kmLet me continue this chat in the car
Automotive Expert
Ok. There is a possibility the engine is still covered under warranty. Im not sure what the warranty coverage is where you live.

Ok, in car, when clutch is depressed no noise, when released the is a slight clattering sound
Automotive Expert
Ok. I believe the throw out bearing is causing the noise. The best repair for that is also replacing the clutch disk and pressure plate at the same time. Especially if it's still the original clutch. Do you have a hyundai dealership on the island?

How do I check the oil
Automotive Expert
One moment while I bring up the picture for you.

already replaced the clutch kit about 3 years ago, but I agree this will need to be changed
Automotive Expert
Drain plug, circled in red.
Automotive Expert
Fill plug circled in gree.
Automotive Expert
What you could do. Is if you take it to the dealer to check for the warranty coverage on the engine. You could have them replace the clutch and throwout bearing when they replace he engine. It needs to be removed anyway when the engine is replaced.

These pic are underneath the car
Automotive Expert
this is looking at the bottom of the transmission. Sorry they aren't better. All the manual provides. The level/fill plug is 17mm

I guess I'm totally f\*\*ked
Automotive Expert
Why is that?

The spares are not in stock and will have to be ordered, about six weeks lead time.
Automotive Expert
Oh no! I'm sorry to hear that!

I just wanted to get to June before I made the overhaul
Automotive Expert
Is it a local shop you had it at where the diagnosed the transmission bearings? If so what was their explanation and did they mention anything about the throwout bearing?

Ok zach, thanks for the advice, she's been pretty good to me, I guess she is getting old. Bye
Automotive Expert
Your welcome, im sorry this is happening to you. It sucks! But if you have anymore hyundai questions in the future you may request me and I'd be glad to help you. Take care and have a good day, Zach

hi, one more thing, my touch screen stop working (the touch function) a while back. system still plays though, is there a remedy short of replacing the unit
Automotive Expert
It would need to be replaced unfortunately. You can try pushing the tiny reset button with a pen tip and see if it fixes it temporarily.

tried resetting numerous times, does not work, thanks anyway.
Automotive Expert
Ok, yea it would need a new unit.
