I just called an auto parts store to order oil cooling lines for my 1995 GMC Sonoma 4.3FI. They are telling me that there are only two lines, but from my research I have two (inlet and outlet) that run from above oil filter to [engine](/topics-engine-gmc/), and two (in and out) that run from engine to radiator. Am I looking at the wrong thing?

only 2 lines. (see pic)

Gotcha. So does this run from the engine to radiator or is it the oil filter to engine?

Got it. What is the line that runs from above the oil filter? That is where the leak is coming from.

is it oil or [coolant](/topics-coolant-gmc/)?

from this pic what line are you talking about?
Customer

To be honest, I am not completely sure. I could be talking about something totally different. The only thing that I know for certain is that I got an oil change at a jiffy lube and they told me to check the area above my oil filter because it was leaking oil fairly rapidly. I'm sorry for not having more to go off of.

My best guess is somewhere around the 5,6,8 region.

that would be the oil filter adapter, there's an ORING behind it that has a tendency to leak.
Customer

That makes sense. I will look into it.

Just got out from under the truck. I see no signs of leaking from anywhere, especially where it usually came from.

is the oil full and did you check it after running the engine for a bit?
Customer

The oil level is good, and I waited until the engine cooled.

did you already replace the lines? or you didn't because you can't see a leak?
Customer

I didn't replace anything. My neighbor (a backyard mechanic) took a peek as well and agreed that there is no leak. I'm not sure what happened, but it seems to have magically stopped.

did the oil change place show you the leak or just told you ?
Customer

They showed. I looked closer when I got home and saw a significant leak. I figured it was the oil filter, so I changed it myself. The leak was still pretty bad, and lasted for about two weeks. Now we are here.

The thing that makes it even more weird, my cooling system did the same thing. I went through a four year long process with it and it just stopped leaking one day. I still check the fluids once a day, and it never goes down.

if you want to, dump a bottle of Lucas in the crankcase. you would need to drain a quart of oil out though.
Customer

Lucas stop leak I assume?

Have a certified mobile mechanic diagnose what's wrong with your car, at your home or office.
The transmission in your truck has the updated 4L60 series with a heavier duty forward gears and thrust bearings so your transmission problem is most likely the torque converter or front pump failure. The clutch materials in an automatic transmission...
Hi there. It is hard to say if you need a motor without knowing what occurred. If the engine made any noise or suddenly stopped and will not crank or start then there are some tests that need to be...
Cars now a days have a lot of electronics. In older cars the engine would crank and as the battery drained it would just crank slower. That is not the case anymore. Because of all these electronics, a car needs...
Hi, thanks for writing in. There are two possibilities here: either the physical temperature of the engine is indeed fluctuating significantly, or the sensor and/or circuit that feeds the temperature gauge is malfunctioning. The sensor (and circuit) can be tested...
Hello, you are going to need a diagnostic chart for this type of issues. The chart gives you a process to a path of repair or replacement for each code. When you have many system codes (https://www.yourmechanic.com/article/how-to-read-and-understand-check-engine-light-codes-by-jason-unrau) you would first...
Hi there. I understand your concern. I start suggesting brake pad replacement at 3mm. Most technicians have a brake pad thickness gauge that takes the guesswork out of determining when to suggest brake pads replacement; 1-3mm is red, 4-6mm is...
Hi there. From the description you have given, I'm lead to believe your vehicle has 65,000 miles and not 6,500 miles. Changing the CVT (continuously variable transmission) fluid (https://www.yourmechanic.com/services/transmission-fluid-service) more than likely will not quiet the transmission. It is very...
The P0016 code is most likely due to the engine sludge build up as the VVT (variable valve timing) system is control with oil pressure. In regards to the engine flush, I whole heartedly agree with Toyota. The number of...
This may be a result of low transmission fluid (https://www.yourmechanic.com/services/transmission-fluid-service) or potentially a faulty transmission control module. A faulty transmission control module may cause a delay in acceleration or erratic shifting of gears. The transmission control module has various sensors...
