my fuel gauge in the blazer is always on "full" and sometimes when I stop at a red light or stop sign, it drops down to empty. The blazer always starts up, no broblem with that, can the fuel pump be replaced another way besides droping the tank??? Can I cut a hole in the back seat and do it this way , instead of droping the tank?? im looking at cost wise on this issue.

The large outer retaining ring on the pump, and the need to access the supply and return connections and the wiring, makes it impractical to cut an access hole. The hole would have to be too large and there is a risk the cutting tool would impinge on the wiring and tubing below. In addition, if you remove the retaining ring, and the pump, without first thoroughly cleaning the top of the tank when the tank is fully out of the car, you’ll get lots of dirt in the tank. Lowering the tank is necessary and will be less work than cutting a hole.
Unless you have already performed a diagnostic, it is not a foregone conclusion that the sending unit in the tank is the faulty component. The sending unit can be tested and/or the wiring and dash gauge can be tested, as appropriate in the required diagnostic. Only remove the pump if and once the problem is confirmed to be the sending unit. If you want this diagnosed and then have only the required components repaired or replaced, please request an electrical component/circuit diagnostic and the responding certified mechanic will resolve this for you. At the conclusion of the diagnostic whatever repair is required (sending unit, gauge, whatever it is ) would be handled by the same mechanic who has come to your location.
