Hello, this happened after changing the battery?

Ok the vehicle starts up normally? The battery went dead or you had some other problem or repairs done as well?

We changed the battery yesterday, it died again, but we cleaned the positive cable and tightened it, drove 1/2 a mile turned it off, in the store for 5 mins, turned it back on, put it in reverse, backed straight up, then went to turn to drive towards the right and the power steering wasn't workingThe battery had been going dead and we assumed it needed to be replaced

Ok, is the charging system working properly? When it runs are you getting about 13 plus volts to the battery? No other warning lights on other than the power steering system fault?

No warning lights at all not even for the power steering

If the battery is going dead, there is most likely a problem with the charging system. You will need to have it checked to see if it charging properly. If it is not, it can cause all sorts of electrical faults. If it is charging ok, then the steering rack itself would need to be replaced. But this sounds like a electrical fault.

How do we check the charging system

With a volt meter. A local auto parts store will check the battery and charging system for free. If the battery is going dead, there is a problem with that or there is a major parasitic draw on the battery.

I watched a you tube on that and the gauges move sporadically with a parasitic draw correct?

No, a draw happens when the vehicle sits overnight and it is dead the next day as an example.

How do we find a parasitic draw

That is something a shop is going to need to do, if you have not done this type of testing, It should be looked at by a dealer or a reputable shop. Check the charging system first. If its not charging it can kill the power steering.
