Hi, a few weeks ago my check engine light came on. We took it to autozone to get the codes checked out. The codes it gave us came back as P2017 and P2004. fast forward to this week, and while my wife was driving, she would press the gas peddle and the the RPMs would climb up to 4000-5000 but the vehicle wouldn’t accelerate. Is it possible that the codes would be directly associated with what is happening with our car now?
Mechanic's Assistant: Does the light stay on, or does it blink?
It has stayed on continuously.
Mechanic's Assistant: What is the make/model/year of your car?
Dodge/caliber/2009
Mechanic's Assistant: Are you fixing your Caliber yourself? What have you tried so far?
I haven’t tried anything thus far because i feared it may be transmission related, but i want to explore other options before jumping into the deep end.
Mechanic's Assistant: Anything else you want the Mechanic to know before I connect you?
Not that i can think of. Thank you.

I'm sorry I didn't catch it, but do you have the 1.8L, 2.4L 2.0L, or 2.0L turbo? Quite the range of offerings for that year haha.

It’s a 2009 Dodge Caliber
SXT so i think it’s the 1.8L

How many miles do you have on the Caliber? Those unfortunately are not related. It may be worth getting another scan with a scanner that can access the transmission ECU. It sounds like you may have a solenoid not engaging properly, or possibly a torque converter failing.

It’s about 154,000.

The codes indicate the intake manifold will need to be replaced, I'm not sure if you already got that checked out or not. It's a pretty common issue on these.
I would recommend getting the transmission fluid checked first, but of course, they don't make that easy these days by removing the dipstick. On that it should have a cap that you can still buy a dipstick for, or just take it to a local shop and have it checked out. Is it the CVT or the regular Automatic transmission?

For the solenoid/torque converter, Is that a difficult repair or is it something i would need to get done in a shop? Or would it absolutely require an entire transmission replacement?
I think it’s a regular automatic transmission.

If it's the regular it's not too bad on the solenoids. On the torque converter that's a pretty big job as the engine and transmission have to be split apart to get the converter out. So first steps would be to get the fluid checked and have a shop check for transmission codes, that would tell you if a solenoid has failed. Once that has been done if you want to come back and give me any codes found I can help you from there. Any other questions obviously feel free to ask as well. The regular transmissions don't have all that many problems on these, so that's a good thing.
