In this case it is normal for there to be resistance when trying to turn the drive shaft. Even with the trans in neutral you still have to spin all the gears inside the transmission. This will cause some friction especially on a new transmission as the gears will have a lot less tolerance with new bearings in it. If the drive shaft is connected to the rear end as well, you will have the resistance of the ring gear and pinion gear as well as the drag form the rear [brakes](/topics-brakes/).

Once you have driven the car a little bit everything will work into its own grove and the drive shaft will not be so hard to turn.

Even in neutral all the gears are turning inside the transmission. So you will hear some noises.
Lets put it this way. Have you ever ridden a 10 speed bike? Ever try to take off with it in 10th gear? it is much harder to take off with it in 10 verses 1st. When you are trying to turn the drive shaft with the trans in neutral, it is like trying to turn the back wheel on a 10speed bike in 10th gear. But if you where to go to the input shaft it would be much easier.

With the [engine](/topics-engine-chevy/) running and the transmission in neutral, the counter shaft and all the gears on the main shaft are still turning, you just do not have a gear locked in that locks the main shaft to the input shaft.

Hey there. One of many components can cause a no crank condition. A bad ignition switch (https://www.yourmechanic.com/article/symptoms-of-a-bad-or-failing-ignition-switch) can be a cause. If the switch does not send a signal to the starter, nothing will happen when you turn the ignition...
