the other day i was driving along and all of a sudden when i pressed on the gas to go up a hill, the car suddenly had a reduction in power and the check engine light came on. i drove the vehicle home and plugged it into my computer with my OBD2 cable and it had Code p0021. last time i had the same issue my mechanic cleaned my cam positioning sensors and that solved my issue, so i cleaned them my self and reset the light. the car drove fine for a day or two and then the light came back on with the same symptoms. im leaning towards a bad VVT solenoid but im not really sure. any advice?
My car has 141567 miles.
My car has an automatic transmission.
Hi Jacob. Thanks for contacting us tonight. P0021 is the OBD-II generic code indicating that the Engine Control Module (ECM) has determined that the bank 2 intake camshaft is more advanced than what the ECM has commanded it to be. This over advanced condition could be during advancing or retarding of the camshaft timing. If you cleaned the cam position sensor and the issue returned, it’s likely that either the sensor itself needs to be replaced, or the harness is faulty. If the VVT was an issue, it should have triggered a different code.
