- Has a scan tool been used to see if there are codes stored?
- Can you prevent the stall by applying throttle?
- Does this concern happen when starting the [engine](/topics-engine-chevy/) cold and hot?

I’m Tyler from Tennessee. No codes on the truck. Trying to pump gas pedal doesn’t help it just goes on and dies. Yes it’s completely random. Sometimes it starts right up cold or warm. Sometimes it takes 5-10 times.

Hello, neighbor Tyler
When it will only crank and not start, will it fire up while cranking at 50-100% throttle?
Do you get the same results with your spare key?
Once it is hot and you shut it off, within 15 minutes does it always restart fine?

It cranks and dies. It tries to start every time just dies within a few seconds. It’s completely random. It may start right up. It may start and die 10 times. It’s so unpredictable. That’s why I’m scratching my head. If I hold gas pedal down it just cranks won’t try to start. Just turns over and turns over and turns over.I’m debating on throttle body itself or The position sensor maybe. But when it’s running it runs perfect.Spare key is the same. I’ve tried to go through the whole relearn process with the key. It didn’t do anything

Since there are no warning lights on and no codes. I am not able to blame the throttle body. I recommend checking the [spark plugs](/topics-spark-plug-chevy/) for wear. If they are over 70k oldI would replace them. Next, I would do a fuel injector bleed down test with a diagnostic tool or remove them and have them flow tested to see if one or more are leaking into the combustion chamber with the engine off causing the engine to flood and struggle to start.
Thank you for seeking us for help, I hope I provided what was needed. Press reply if you need to follow up. If you liked my answer please let me know so I can mark your question complete. Moose

No injector issue. I believe the throttle body is getting stuck and not Intaking air on start.

The problem sounds like the charging system or battery failed. Have the vehicle jump started to see if it starts and have charging system tested with battery load tested to see if you need an alternator and/or battery.
