Hello I'm Bart. I am an ASE certified Master Technician with over 20 years experience in the Automotive Industry.
I know it can be frustrating having vehicle problems. I'll do my best to help you. Please understand that
I don't know what your skill level is, what tools you have available and I can not physically see what you are doing.
If it is more helpful the site automatically offers a premium phone call service where you can talk to me directly or another Expert may call you if you request it.
Please understand that this not a direct request from me as it is automated. You may accept or decline, but please understand that
I may not be able to call right away as I may be helping another customer or researching information related to the problem you are having.
If this is an electrical issue please a have voltmeter and 12 volt test lamp ready to use.
I would also ask that you tell me what parts you have tried
replacing to fix the problem. Doing so will help diagnose the issue faster.
If there are any trouble codes please provide them.
I'm reading the information you provided to the Mechanic's Assistant.
I may request more information or provide an answer momentarily. Just a moment.
Are the cooling fans working?

Are you using the gauge as an indicator of engine temp or using scan tool to monitor the DATA.

Okay. Is the cooling system boiling over into the overflow bottle when it overheats? I just want to confirm that the vehicle is in fact overheating.

I honestly don't know, I checked for leaks or loose hoses the coolant base itself is full. I added coolant to the backup

Got it. I think the next thing to do here is take a manual reading of the cooling system temperature to verify the gauge is accurate.
If the vehicle is in fact overheating, this may be a [water pump](/topics-water-pump/) issue or a [radiator](/topics-radiator-chevy/) issue. If the vehicle was severely overheated, there may be an issue with the cylinder [head gaskets](/topics-head-gasket-chevy/).

You're welcome.
Still not sure what you need?
Have a certified mobile mechanic diagnose what's wrong with your car, at your home or office.
You are correct about needing an ECU and possible a new transmission. Your vehicle may be covered by a recall from the manufacturer. The recall is T-CP-2TC. You will need to contact your dealer to see if your VIN is...
It is a common problem with this car to have the key wear down and not trigger the tumblers in the key cylinder. The only fix will be to replace the key assembly (https://www.yourmechanic.com/services/ignition-lock-assembly-replacement) and switch (https://www.yourmechanic.com/services/ignition-switch-replacement). I would suggest...
Experiencing an engine knock is not a problem to be taken lightly. Typically when an engine begins to produce a knocking sound, it is a good indication that there is some sort of internal engine damage already going on. This,...
Hello. It sounds like it needs new anti-rattle clips. These clips hold the brake pads in place and should be replaced at every brake job. It may also need new caliper slides (https://www.yourmechanic.com/article/symptoms-of-a-bad-or-failing-brake-caliper) if they are not tight. It is...

Hello. You should definitely not drive your car when the transmission gear box oil (https://www.yourmechanic.com/services/differential-gear-oil-replacement) is low as this could cause major damage. In this situation, I would have an expert come to your vehicle to have it diagnosed and...
Hi there. Typically a sticking valve does not cause the VVT solenoid (https://www.yourmechanic.com/article/how-long-does-a-variable-valve-timing-vvt-solenoid-last) to fail, but it can increase vacuum pressure inside the motor that will lead to other timing related issues, which can trigger the same error codes. Anytime...
Hi there. I completely understand about time constraints and your concern about a potential fire hazard. Many people continue to drive their vehicles even if there is oil on the exhaust components as they usually smolder and smoke. However, the...
