The first thing I would recommend to do is check the transmission fluid level and condition. Check for any transmission fluid leaks that may be causing it to be low and check to ensure it is clean (usually pink looking). If the transmission fluid is brown, dark brown or black, it may be time for a flush or a drain and fill. Transmission oil is very much like engine oil that should be changed regularly (just not as often) If not, you may notice an issue with the transmission engaging or shifting into gear like it should. You can also check the smell of the transmission fluid. If its dirty or oil, it will have a foul smell to it which indicates its time to replace or flush the fluid and add some fresh fluid with all new additives and detergents which will help prolong the life of your transmission and help it shift evenly and correctly throughout all of the gears.
If these all check out good the next step would be to drop the transmission pan and check/inspect for any excess debris or broken internal parts that may be sitting in pan. If any is found it will indicate an internal transmission issue which will require removal and inspection for further damage. If no debris is found, then it could be a wiring or electrical issue that could be causing the issue that you’re experiencing. Faulty shift solenoid, power supply issue, or transmission sensor or switch that needs replacement. At that point, it may be best to take to a transmission shop for further inspection and a complete diagnoses. If you have not done so already, you could use a scan tool to access the computer on board the vehicle using the data link connector and check for stored codes, pending codes, history and current codes. Sometimes there are codes in the computer system related to the transmission that will not illuminate the check engine light but will assist with the transmission diagnosis and repair you are experiencing. Glad I can help. Please let me know if you have any further questions. Thanks and have a great evening!

Ok no problem. Thanks and let me know!
Still not sure what you need?
Have a certified mobile mechanic diagnose what's wrong with your car, at your home or office.
Greetings and thank you for writing in with this question! Does the Check Engine Light illuminate when the vehicle stalls? If so, a certified mechanic (like those with YourMechanic) can scan the vehicle computer for codes. This type of stalling...
Hi, Your engine most likely has major head gasket failure and possible oil pump failure also. Running for a long time with the oil light on could have caused major internal failure of the bearings if the light being on...
From what you've described, the cylinder head overheated which caused the wires to melt. Your engine is overheating and the white smoke from the exhaust (https://www.yourmechanic.com/services/smoke-from-engine-or-exhaust-inspection) indicates that the head gasket is blown or cracked. You should have the car...
Two common causes of no heat, as you describe the circumstances, are a fault with the heater control valve (https://www.yourmechanic.com/services/heater-control-valve-replacement) and/or a problem with the blend door in the under dash ventilation system being stuck in position or inoperable. There...
Hello. When using a 16X8 wheel on your truck you need to use an offset of 10 mm. This will give you the necessary clearance for the wheel itself. This may not be suitable for the tire that you are...
Hi there - check the problem code that keeps coming up. I suspect a mismatch between the throttle position sensor (TPS) and the engine computer. The TPS has software in it that has to be coded specifically to the engine...
Hi there. If you have a factory radio, then the volume knob switch is shorting out with the radio controls causing the radio to shut off and flicker the lights. If you have an aftermarket radio, then there could be...
This may be a sign of a faulty MAP sensor as the vehicle responds adversely to a load put on the motor (i.e. putting it in gear, turning on AC or engaging the brakes). The Manifold Absolute Pressure (MAP) sensor...
What exactly was wrong with the "valve cover"? Valve covers are not typically replaced unless the cover is cracked or deformed. On cars, the check engine light can, occasionally, come on, stay awhile and then disappear never to be seen...
