It sounds like you are burning a considerable amount of oil. The build up on the spark plug and the smoke are two major indications. More than likely a piston ring has broken affecting the cylinder with considerable amounts of engine oil blow by.

Well, it may be beyond repair without doing a total engine rebuild or replacement. I would suggest having a cylinder compression test done and or a cylinder leak down test done to verify the problem.

For your particular van, it would be much more cost effective to have a used motor installed. There are plenty of recyclers that sell used motors with warranties. You will just need a reputable repair shop to do the work. So a used motor could cost $500-1000. The labor included with other things such as fluids, etc. you maybe looking at $2500-3k for the complete job.
