Since your vehicle starts, and the engine runs, but it won't shift into gear, there is very little you can do to repair this issue. This is not a matter of pushing a button or flipping a switch. There is some sort of mechanical or electrical problem that must be diagnosed and repaired at a reputable repair shop by qualified technicians. If you have an extended warranty on your vehicle, I suggest having it towed to the nearest GM dealership for this repair. If you don't, then choose a shop that has good customers reviews, and hires only ASE Certified technicians.

No, it sounds like you may have an internal problem inside the transmission. Can you see where the shift cable attaches to the shift lever on the transmission? It should be under the hood on the driver side just at the rear of the engine where it bolts to the trans.

Yes. If you have someone try to shift the car, and you watch that lever to see if it moves, that will tell you if the problem is with the shift mechanism or inside the trans.

Yes, any movement. the cable moves the lever, and the lever puts the trans in the various gears based on the shifter position.

You have problems inside the transmission. It is time to have a repair shop look at this. You will not be able to repair this yourself. I suggest a GM dealership, but the choice of shops is yours. I wish you well, and thank you for using JustAnswer.
