Q: 2007 KIA Carnival 3.8L Petrol Automatic

asked by on September 16, 2016

Kia Carnival 3.8L Petrol:car hesitates at times and slows down badly at times. It almost stalls at times. It keeps slow speed at 20-30KM. more so when low on gas 1/4 or less tank. most of the time is ok. I have driven it on very low gas and may also have put bad gas in it. Need to know where the gas filters is as there is nou opening in side the van as is the case with older Kia Vans. What is the likely cause? where is the fuel filter and gas pump etc. My car has 130000 miles. My car has an automatic transmission.

My car has 130000 miles.
My car has an automatic transmission.

This sounds like potentially a problem with fuel delivery or intake. I would recommend checking the mass air flow sensor to see if it is dirty or faulty as this can cause the hesitation or slowing you are describing. Also check the throttle position sensor as this can also cause this issue.

I’m curious if the Check Engine Light is on. If so, I would recommend having an expert from YourMechanic come to your home to diagnose the stalling issue firsthand and help repair it with a scanning tool which will allow any fault codes to be downloaded from the car’s computer indicating what specifically is failing.

my car is slow to accelerate. i have a p0171 code. i replaced my o2 sensor but the code came back on. what else could it be?
The code P0171 (https://www.yourmechanic.com/article/p0171-obd-ii-trouble-code-system-too-lean-bank-1-by-andrew-quinn) is a lean code indicating the O2 sensor is detecting the engine is running lean – that is, the air/fuel mixture is imbalanced. You may have a clogged fuel filter (https://www.yourmechanic.com/article/symptoms-of-a-bad-or-failing-fuel-filter) or a fuel pump (https://www.yourmechanic.com/article/symptoms-of-a-bad-or-failing-fuel-pump)...
If the computer was calibrated wrong, can that damage the computer.
A computer calibration will not damage the computer unless the update failed. If it failed then the vehicle would not started right after the calibration was done. Then all that would need to be done too redo the calibration.
My car is jerking from 2nd to 3rd gear and downshifts. Will jerk a little
Hi, thanks for writing in. Your car has what is called a secondary shifter valve or solenoid valve that is operated or directed by the PCM (Powertrain Control Module) which is what controls the drivetrain and transmission. Code P0661 (https://www.yourmechanic.com/article/p0661-obd-ii-trouble-code-intake-manifold-tuning-valve-control-circuit-low-bank-1-by-valerie-johnston)...
Odd noise like a tractor, oil light keeps coming on. What could this mean?
When the oil light comes on, it's usually an indication that your oil pressure is low. When your engine is running, it has a pump that moves the engine oil through passages in the engine under pressure to keep the...

My truck threw a rod, should i consider a crate engine to replace it with, or just a regular engine.
The question you should ask yourself is how much of a budget you are having for your vehicle. The difference between a crate engine and a new engine is that the crate engine will come with all of the parts...

2000 Mercury Sable. Car is not getting any RPM. Wont get over 10-20 MPH.
Your vehicle has entered what is referred to as "limp mode" due to an engine or transmission-related failure. Often, the failure is in a sensor or electrical control type component. The first thing to do is check and see if...
