What is the Gas Cap all about?

The purpose of a Gas Cap is twofold: one, it helps prevent dust and other particles from getting into the gas tank, and two, it helps prevent fuel emissions from entering the atmosphere. If your gas cap is faulty, the Check Engine light may come on. Additionally, your vehicle may fail a smog test if the gas cap is gone or not functioning properly.

How it's done:

  • Inspect the gas cap.
  • Pressure-test the gas cap.
  • Install new gas cap if faulty.

What common symptoms indicate you may need to replace the Gas Cap?

  • Check Engine light is on.
  • Car does not pass the emission test.
  • Gas Cap is missing.

Mercedes-Benz E320 V6-3.2L - Check Engine Light is on - San Jose, California
Whitney was quite professional and appeared to know his business. I intend to proceed with his suggested work, but I have my doubts whether it will fix the problem of misfires on cylinders 1-3. Because I feel he is honest and knows his business, I am going to see if his diagnosis is correct. I'll let you know on a future review. Doug

Mercedes-Benz E320 V6-3.2L - Brake Pads Replacement (Front, Rear) - Salt Lake City, Utah
Outstanding!!! Joseph came yesterday, and I've already recommended him to several people. I was a little nervous about trying a mobile service with somebody sight-unseen it, but I sure didn't need to be. It turned out to be a great experience – thanks mainly to the excellent ethics, training, and expertise of this very personable service technician. He arrived right at the agreed time, and was exceptionally knowledgeable, friendly, and efficient. And the cost through MyMechanic turned out to be about 30% less than taking the car to a garage. And it was A LOT more convenient. Very impressive. It was a refreshing experience compared to the mediocre (sometimes dishonest) work that is so common today. I plan to take advantage of Joseph's skills, without hesitation. (And, yes, the new brakes on the Silver Bullet work great!) Thank you, Joseph!
