Missouri drivers could be at risk for getting fines and even having their vehicle towed if they are not careful about where they park. Knowing the rules and laws for parking is just as important as knowing the rules of driving and the laws associated with it. There are a number of important things to remember, but you may want to start with the colored curb zones.
What are the colored curbs?
The colors can indicate certain types of parking restrictions for different locations. When the curb is painted white, it generally means that you are only able to stop there for a short amount of time. You can be in the area only as long as it takes to drop off or pick up passengers.
A yellow curb could indicate a loading zone, which is where you could load and unload your vehicle. You will have to stay with the vehicle during this time though. The yellow could also indicate that it is a commercial loading zones and you are not allowed to park there. Check for signage that indicates the use. Most of the time, you will not be allowed to park next to a yellow curb.
Red zones are areas where you are not permitted to stand, park, or stop at all. Often, these are fire lanes.
Other rules and regulations for Missouri parking
There are quite a few areas where you are not allowed to park in the state. You cannot park in an intersection, on a crosswalk, or on a sidewalk. You cannot park across any driveway entrances either. This could be a big inconvenience for people who need to get out of their driveways, and it could even be a hazard if they have an emergency and need to leave.
You are not allowed to park on the left side of the road on a two-way street. If it is a one-way street, you can, but you will want to make sure the vehicle is as far off the road as you can possibly get it. You do not want it to interfere with traffic.
Drivers are not allowed to park on bridges, and they cannot block fire hydrants. While there is no specific number of feet indicated that you need to leave between your vehicle and the hydrant, you should try to leave at least 20 feet.
It is important that you do not block traffic in any way when you are parking. Check to make sure that parking in an area, even if it would normally be legal, doesn’t cause an issue to the flow of traffic. If it does, you will want to find another spot.
In addition, you do not want to park in a location that is designated as handicapped parking unless you have special plates or placards that indicate you are legally allowed to park there.
Always look for signage that indicates the rules of parking for different areas to reduce the risk of getting a citation.
