For residents of Louisiana, finding a way to drive on the roadways safely and legally is a top concern. Making sure that the vehicle you have is registered with the Louisiana DMV should be on the top of your list of priorities. Once you get the vehicle registered, you will need to make sure that it is renewed every two years. You will not have to worry about keeping up with this on your own due to the fact that Louisiana will send you out a notice that it is due. When this notice arrives, here is what you can expect to find on the paperwork:
- The vehicle identification number
- Your license plate number
- The expiration date on the current registration
- The fee that you are expected to pay
- The ID number for the renewal
Renewing the registration in person
One of the easiest ways to get this process handled is by gong to the OMV office in person. If you are going to the OMV office, this is what you will need to take with you:
- The notice that you have received in the mail
- The proof of insurance that you have
- Show your driver’s license
- A safety inspection sticker
- The payment for the fees you owe
Registering online
Another great way to handle this renewal is by using the online option. Here is what you will need to do to take advantage of this option:
- Visit the OMV’s ExpressLane portal
- Enter the ID number that you received on your notice
- Verify that you live at the same address on file
- Have an inspection sticker
- Pay the fee that you have
- Get a print out of the receipt for your records
Handling the renewal by mail
Some people prefer to handle this process by mail. The following are some of the things that will need to happen to take advantage of this option:
- Make sure the information on the renewal notice is accurate
- Put a copy of your driver’s license in the envelope
- Get a valid inspection sticker
- Write a check for the fees that you owe.
Once you have put all of this into an envelope, be sure to mail it to the address below.
