He replacef the starter, but the starter would not engage, trobleshot, determined battery dead, gave new estmate to replace battery. Satisfied with replacement of starter but did not determine problem still not fixed.

Yesterday I disconnected the battery and took it to Auto zone. It was fine as you identified. But the car wouldn't start. Thought it was the starter.
