This could be caused by many things. It's most likely a problem with the lifters. Check the engine oil level to make sure it's full. You'll need to use a stethoscope to pinpoint the noise location on the engine. IF you can do that I can help determine exactly where it's coming from. Since it's only at idle, it's likely a lifter problem.
My goal is to give you the best service possible and to help you. If you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to let me know. If I’m not online at the time, I will respond ASAP when I get back.

You would need to check the oil pressure. If it's good then you'll need to replace the lifters.

You'll need to install an auxiliary oil pressure gauge to the engine.

Before the purchase, you should definitely take a look at the car in person before moving forward - especially since it is a relatively older car. Just because it looks good in a picture does not mean everything works. There...
Hi there. Change out the spark plug wires (https://www.yourmechanic.com/services/ignition-cable-spark-plug-wires-replacement), put sea foam in the vacuum system to clean the internals of the engine and change the oil and filter (https://www.yourmechanic.com/services/change-oil-and-filter). Then drive the vehicle around and fuel up with Techron...
Hello. If the door will not open (https://www.yourmechanic.com/services/door-will-not-open-inspection), then the issue may be the latch, but it may also be the linkage that connects the handles to the latch. You will need to access the inside of the door panel...
If your alternator is failing, this can definitely cause it to smoke depending on how badly it has failed. When an alternator fails, the bearings inside usually have failed to a point that causes them to whine severely and, depending...
Hi there - wheel bearings are fairly durable, although pot holes cause damage and knocking noises as you are experiencing. As for whether this is safe to drive (https://www.yourmechanic.com/article/is-it-safe-to-drive-with-a-wheel-bearing-gone), I would treat this scenario as you would driving around with...
Hi there - your first move would be to carefully sketch or cellphone camera record each coil position, then removed the coil packs. Using a spray tube, hose down the spark plugs with rust penetrant (WD-40, PB Blaster or similar),...
The noise associated with steering at low speed is not related to the fault causing code P1717 to display. The steering related noise could involve the power steering pump and/or drive belt although there are other possibilities. To pinpoint the...
The cost to replace the engine may exceed the value of the vehicle. It will cost less to replace the engine with a used one versus overhauling the existing engine.
