Took the car in for a new starter, had issues with the repair (loud crunching on startup). Shop told me it was under warranty, so they replaced it with two more starters, same thing happens with both new starters. They are now telling me that something caused the timing chain to skip time, and that all pistons are firing at low pressure. The car is not driveable, and they recommend replacing my engine. How do i know that this is not their fault?
My car has 97000 miles.
My car has an automatic transmission.
Whether or not this was the shops fault would depend on how long the starter was in the vehicle before this issue started happening. I would recommend taking your vehicle to another shop and having a second opinion performed. This will let you know if what the first shop tells you adds up or if they were not being truthful.
