I have a 2008 Saturn aura. I have a 6th cylinder misfire that I believe has been going on for 2 days because that’s when the engine light turned on. I am in flagstaff AZ but need to go down to Phoenix this Friday. My question is, is it safe for me to drive down to Phoenix with my car in this shape? Mechanic's Assistant: Has your vehicle stalled? Has anyone run a diagnostic test to pull the trouble code? My car vibrates when it’s stopped and sometimes when it’s running. And I took it to autozone to get it looked at and a cylinder misfire piped up Mechanic's Assistant: Are you fixing your Aura yourself? What have you tried so far? I haven’t tried anything out yet. I was told maybe some fuel injection could fix it? Mechanic's Assistant: Anything else you want the Mechanic to know before I connect you? Thats all

Hello, I'll be happy to help you out with this, and sorry to hear you're having this issue. Do you happen to know the code that it gave?

The error code was P0306Cylinder 6 misfire detected
Automotive Expert
Gotcha, I was just checking in case it had any others with it. I would not recommend driving it with a misfire any decent distance or at all if possible. Is your check engine light flashing or steady? Also do you have the 3.5 or 3.6L engine?

I believe it was steadyThe 3.5
Automotive Expert
That's good at least. When it's flashing is when it can cause damage to the catalytic converters or itself, so if it start flashing you really want to pull over as soon as possible. Let me do some quick checks on that and I'll let you know what I've seen most often.

Ok thank you

Ok, so when it's just one like that, since those fire off of tandem coils, you can most likely rule out the coil which is great. Do you know the last time the plugs were changed?

I do not know.
Automotive Expert
I would look at that. Barring a more serious engine issue, your suspects would be the plug which is easy, the plug wire which is easy, or a fuel injector. I don't see injectors on those go bad very often, and it's certainly easier to check the plug and wire. You could swap the wire with one of similar length from another cylinder to test the cable. The plug you can just pull out and visually inspect. It's cheap enough it's probably worth replacing at minimum that plug, if not all of them. How many miles do you have on the car?

About 171k and do you think adding fuel injector to the gas tank could help?
Automotive Expert
Very very slim chance that would clear it up unless that injector is just gummed up a little bit. Not impossible but not probable. If you or your shop want to check the injector out, that's easy enough to do with a relatively cheap tool called a noid light. You can get them at any parts store. Between that and the plug and the plug wire, we should be able to narrow it down. One other thing you can check is to pull of the intake boot from the throttle body and check the carbon buildup on the throttle blade there. Almost always that can cause a misfire, if it does, on more than one cylinder, but stranger things have happened. So overall my recommendation would be to check the plug, then the plug wire, then the injector.

Ok. Thank you for your help Christian!
