Q: P0123

asked by on January 28, 2018

Hello I have a problem with my car so about a week and a half ago my car was driving fine until I was driving at night and all of a sudden I lost half of the power in my car. so I gave it gas and it wouldn't rev past 5k rpm and it was accelerating very slow and sputtering so I lugged it slow.the next day I started it up and it idled fine until it the engine started shaking really violently and sputtering to avoid further damage I shut it off. I checked for any codes it gave me two codes one rear o2 sensor p0138 which I fixed. So now its the tps sensor p0123 I got a new one and installed it maybe I did it wrong I'm not an expert with electrical applications but I'm good at the mechanical part. If someone can help me out I'd greatly appreciate it 

My car has 185600 miles.
My car has a manual transmission.

Throttle position sensor codes could indicate problems with the throttle position sensor itself, problems with the throttle body, or problems with the wiring to the throttle position sensor. In extreme cases a dirty throttle body could even cause this issue preventing the throttle from closing fully. I would recommend having your vehicle inspected by a qualified professional to determine the exact cause of this issue. Consider YourMechanic as this type of inspection can be performed at your home or office.

The code P0123 is for the throttle position sensor and transmission problems can happen if you do not relearn the TPS with the DRB scanner. You may need to have the system retested and relearn throttle angle with a DRB3 scanner.
