Yesterday, I was sitting in my car in my driveway with it running waiting for someone to get home because I was locked out. While the car was sitting, the car started to overheat and white (smoke or steam) came from under the hood. When I got out, I saw that [coolant](/topics-coolant-nissan/) had leaked out from the front (primarily passenger side, I believe). My fiance tried to start the car today to drive it down the road to a repair shop, but it won't start.
Mechanic's Assistant: How old are the hoses? And have you tested the actual mix of your coolant?
The hoses are probably 5 years old. I haven't tested the coolant. I'm not sure how to do that.
Mechanic's Assistant: What is the make/model/year of your car?
2011 Nissan Juke
Mechanic's Assistant: Are you fixing your Juke yourself? What have you tried so far?
We haven't tried anything. It happened last night when it was already late and today when we tried to start it to take it to the shop, it wouldn't start.
Mechanic's Assistant: Anything else you want the Mechanic to know before I connect you?
I don't think so

The engine won't start because of a lack of coolant. The computer is preventing any further damage to the engine.
How far is the shop?
Customer

The shop is down the street. Maybe a quarter of a mile.

Can you fill up the coolant as much as you can.

I'm at work right now, but I can get coolant on the way home and put some in.

Get a gallon of coolant and fill it up to the neck.

Ok. What could be the cause of the coolant leak?

cracked radiator
Locate the **coolant** reservoir and fill the coolant up when you get home. Any coolant will be fine because this is temporary.

Ok, I can definitely do that.

Once the shop fixed it , ask them to use the factory Long Life Blue Coolant (Antifreeze).

OK. Is a cracked radiator a complicated repair? I know nothing.

It could be a cracked radiator hose and radiator, these jobs are easy straight forward.

OK, thank you. I always get scared that it's going to be a huge issue.

How much coolant will I need do you think? Is one bottle enough? And should I buy the 50/50 pre diluted?

Yes, one gallon of 50/50 pre-mixed coolant is fine. You can buy 2 gallons just in case.

The way modern electronic engine control systems are designed, all of the sensors are important but some are more crucial to the vehicle than others. For example, if the engine electronic control unit (ECU) loses the input (https://www.yourmechanic.com/article/how-your-ecu-uses-sensor-data) from the...
