Q: My car gas pedal seems stuck when pressing on it while in park or drive 1994 Honda Accord

asked by on March 05, 2017

My car seems to have an issue that I can't figure out. I will drive and all of a sudden it seems that my car's gas pedal gets stuck and my car will not want to accelerate while in driving, it also does this when I'm in park, so I don't think it's the transmission. I have no check engine lights. I have had this problem before and it went away for about 2 months and now it seems to be back. The best way to describe it is that my pedal has resistance to it and my rmps seem to fall low down towards 400-300rpms and when I hit the gas the car doesn't want to get past 20 miles per hour

My car has 223000 miles.
My car has an automatic transmission.

Hi there - I believe the throttle body on your engine is worn out, specifically the throttle sensor portion of the unit (internal component). It needs to be replaced. I recommend a throttle body inspection performed by a mobile, professional mechanic, such as one from YourMechanic, who will come to your location, confirm this diagnosis, and give you an accurate assessment of damage and cost estimate for repairs.

How can I test an abs sensor to make sure its good
Depending on the vehicle you can do an ohms test if you know the correct reading you should get (about 25 ohms on some vehicles). However, the best method for checking the ABS speed sensor (https://www.yourmechanic.com/article/symptoms-of-a-bad-or-failing-abs-speed-sensor) is to use a...

Issue with AC after timing chain replacement?
My vote is for coincidence. The temperature blend door actuators are a pretty common failure item on these models as well as timing chain concerns. The temperature blend door actuator is mounted inside the dashboard while the timing chain replacement...

What will make a battery drain quickly? It doesn't happen every day but it happens 2-3 days a week.
i would suggest checking the voltage regulator (https://www.yourmechanic.com/services/instrument-voltage-regulator-replacement). This is a unit that regulates the charging of the battery by the alternator, making sure that the battery receives the correct amount of amperage when charging. When this is not working...
While I was driving, the vehicle will not drive and while I hit the gas it will just revv not move.
If the vehicle is in gear and acceleration of the engine does not produce forward movement, there is likely something wrong with the transmission and/or the torque converter. The origin of the fault could be electrical or mechanical. There is...
Engine light on and vibration
The cause is more likely to be in engine related controls or sensors but nothing can be ruled out until an actual and thorough diagnostic is performed. Inasmuch as the check engine light came on, there will be critical clues...
