reading over your story, im unclear to the actual issue you are having.
Limp mode is when you have an electrical failure, the car is limited in not only speed but engine speed and transmission gears as well.

Yeah I can only accelerate A minimum speed but the RPMs just go right up

That is not limp mode thats a transmission failure.

I don’t know that, but anytime the Rpm’s climb and you have no acceleration that means youre low on fluid or have an internal transmission failure.
First thing is to have codes checked for transmission fault codes.
Second is to verify fluid level.

You cant. You check it by filling it.
Its impossible to verify the quantity in there, its eaiser to just fill it and check it per the process. Then if the issue persists, well you know its not fluid level.
