Car shakes at idle and gets better with time to warm up though it still shakes. Took it to a shop to have new motor mounts put in and it still shakes at about 80% of before if not the same. Wouldn’t know if they actually did the job because I didn’t look at the engine before going. But the mounts are the only ones that aren’t dusty, so either they did the job, or they just cleaned those parts in particular. Pretty sure they did the job so what else could it be?

- With the hood open, parking brake set, shifter in R, and then in D.
- Apply the brake and apply the gas while watching the engine. No more than 10 seconds.
- Does the engine shake, does the engine move excessively forward and rear ward more than 1 inch in either direction?

Hi I'm Trey. While watching it parked nose higher than the rear in my driveway I don't notice shakes. I do see the engine move backwards noticeably. If I had to estimate it would be about an inch, slightly more perhaps. Hard to tell exactly because it's hard to capture on camera but I could see it.

Welcome, Trey
Since the angle of the car does play into this that means the load on the engine and transaxle is putting the engine in an off-centered bind. I recommend you start the repair with new engine and trans mounts. You can buy an aftermarket kit containing all from eBay cheaper than OEM Honda ones.
Thank you for seeking us for help, I hope I provided what was needed. Press reply if you need to follow up. If you liked my answer please let me know so I can mark your question complete. Moose

Well actually I just had one put in, at least in theory. Honestly didn't check the parts before and after the job. But I'm pretty sure they put it in because those are the only clean parts in the engine bay. And it would be pretty bold not too. Bought the parts from 1aauto.

The upper and lower torque mount, and the engine mount

In that case, we need to redo the test again abut this time on flat ground and with a helper watching the engine. We need to be able to determine if this vibration is from the engine running poorly or from it moving forward or aft and getting out of balance.

Parked level I'm now the engine does shake. I guess jittery would be the word. It shakes as if it were shivering. Also looking again the engine does move forward and backwards likely more than an inch. Perhaps 1.5 inches.

Sine the shop just installed the new mounts. I would go back and have them recheck their work and question why the engine is moving excessively and vibrating. They may have installed the parts incorrectly.

Okay then. One last question, could this be a fueling issue? What would be the signs of that?

If there were a low-pressure fuel concern you would notice even worse above idle while driving as the engine would be starving for more fuel. You would notice the engine bogging down and bucking hard as it was misfiring.
