Hello, my name is James. It sounds like you cranked the starter too many times without the [engine](/topics-engine-gmc/) running and the battery became discharged. All you need to do is recharge the battery with a good battery charger. The best way is to run the charger on a low amperage setting, or trickle charge, overnight. Then you should have enough charge in the battery to continue with the diagnosis.

I was assuming that but why wouldn't give enough with a jump start?

If a battery is fully discharged, even a jump start won't allow it to make enough energy. You may also have corrosion on the cable ends or inside the cables.

Brand new battery. Brand new cable ends

For one thing, it is not a good idea to just replace cable ends. You could have corrosion inside the cables that you cannot see. When you replace the cable ends, you also allow oxidation and corrosion to get inside the cables and they will fail eventually. If you want to know why the battery won't turn over the starter, you will have to perform a volt drop test on the positive cable to the starter first. Then you will have perform the same test from the starter ground (at one of the mounting bolts) back to the battery on the negative cable. Diagnosing problems on a car is a step by step process of elimination. You check the things that might be causing your problem (there is always more than one thing) one at a time until you find the problem. Charge the battery first. Then start running tests.
