My battery keeps dying even though my radio is off, all electronics are unplugged and the interior and [headlights](/topics-headlight-ford/) are off. Now that I tried to start it, the headlights are on and won't turn off, even though the switch is in the off position Mechanic's Assistant: Have you checked the fuses? Have you checked the bulbs? No, and the bulbs are fine since they're on I would think Mechanic's Assistant: What is the make/model/year of your car? 2009 (I believe) ford freestyle Mechanic's Assistant: Are you fixing your Freestyle yourself? What have you tried so far? I hope to diagnose myself. We've jumped it, and it ran for 2 hours and then started again fine about 30 minutes later. But 2 days later it's dead again. The [alternator](/topics-alternator-ford/) is only 3 years old, so I'm hoping it's a dead cell like bad battery. Mechanic's Assistant: Anything else you want the Mechanic to know before I connect you? The car has had a lot of recent, expensive repairs including computer work and a new [ac compressor](/topics-ac-compressor-ford/)

Hi Drew! Thank you so much. I'm really just trying to diagnose the issue and figure out if it's an electrical issue, time to replace the battery, or something else.

The issue you are describing sounds like we have some electrical issues. It sounds like you have 2 separate issues but the could be related. For the first issue of the vehicle not starting after a few days, it sounds like we may have a parasitic draw. Before you can begin testing for that you need to have the battery tested to make sure it does not have a dead cell. This can be done at any Advance Autoparts or Autozone across the US. As for the headlights remaining on we will need to begin by checking for trouble codes. The headlights circuit is controlled by the smart junction box based upon input from the headlight switch. Refer to the attached pinpoint test to diagnose the headlight issue. Once the headlight issue has been resolved, we will need to complete a parasitic draw test. See the link below to understand how to test for a parasitic draw. [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KF1gijj03\_0](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KF1gijj03_0)
