2002 mercury villager estate. Have been having o2 sensor code come up but once cleared it could go another day before its back.
Mechanic's Assistant: Have you located all of the vehicle's [oxygen sensors](/topics-oxygen-sensor-ford/)? Are the wires leading to and from each intact and in good shape?
Now its getting harder to start. Takes longer to turn over and after say 3 seconds of trying there is a loud clunk then it starts

The O2 sensor will have to be replaced or the light will continue to come back on. The computer will see the problem with the O2 sensor and will trigger the code which will turn the light on.

This sounds like the starter engagement is giving you the clunk. I would suspect the starter motor itself.

Ok now all of a sudden it has not done it all day. Like it is fixed. Still need to get sensor 1 but that would not cause clunk
