I have an 07 ford edge sel fwd 3.5L v6 The other day as i was driving it started making like a clanking sound but was driving normal. When i got off freeway and came to a stop i noticed it was idling very rough and that clanking sound was still there just not as fast. Now it still doing all of the above but won't speed up all that much. It just rumbles and shakes alot while trying to speed up Mechanic's Assistant: Is the rough idle intermittent or consistent? Oh also, when i got off freeway and checked [engine](/topics-engine-ford/) area, i could see that there was an oil leal somewhere by the front of engine Mechanic's Assistant: What year is your Edge? Consistent 2007 Mechanic's Assistant: Are you fixing your Edge yourself? What have you tried so far? I am. I haven't really done much but asked around and googled it's symptoms to try to have an idea before i take it apart Mechanic's Assistant: Anything else you want the Mechanic to know before I connect you? No that's pretty much it

Sometimes it may take a moment for me to respond because I may have to look up information about your concern. I appreciate your patience and will provide responses as soon as possible. It sounds like your connecting rod bearing have gone out and you are hearing the engine knocking. You'll need to use a stethoscope to listen to the engine and pinpoint the location. This will help us better understand where the noise is coming from. If the connecting rod bearings are bad then you will have to rebuild the engine. If it's overheating then you most likely have a blown head gasket. My goal is to give you the best service possible and to help you. If you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to let me know. If I’m not online at the time, I will respond ASAP when I get back.

Ok so my next step should be stethoscope? The engine noise started at the same time the oil leak started. When i turn the car on and look in the engine bay, i can see tiny drops of oil on the frame between engine and radiator. I cam drive it for a few blocks going about 10-15 mph and speeding up very slowly before it starts to smoke and i have to pull over and turn it off to avoid further embarrassment and of course damage as well. Please help. What would the ticket be to rebuild my engine? Can i do this myself? Also, is there another way of pinpointing the sound?
Automotive Expert
Yes. That will tell us where the noise is coming from. If the engine is smoking then it's likely catastrophic damage and you'll need an engine. This is a big ticket item. The labor would be around $2100. The engine can be anywhere from $1500 - $6000 depending on where you get it. If you get a used engine it would be cheaper. A new or rebuilt engine would be more expensive.

Hey my car won't start now what could be keeping it from starting? Last night my battery died and i tried jumping it 2 different times 2 different cars and nothing. I just got back to where i had to leave the car at with a brand new battery from autozone since warranty, and it is doing the same thing it did with the other battery. Wants to turn over at first but quickly looses power
