I just bought a 1988 (according to the last 2 digits of the vin but when I look up info for it I have to chose 1989) bayliner ciera sunbridge 2455 with a 350 chevy. When I try to start it and give it full throttle it sounds as if it wants to turn over. Anything less then full throttle it just cranks over. I replaced the starter and fuel pump. This is my first boat any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

Is the basic engine compression within spec.? Check to be sure that the fuel is not expired. If fuel has sat in the boat for "months", which of course is not uncommon, the engine will never start. The fact that it is closer to starting when the throttle plate is wide open, versus closed, points to the air/fuel ratio being off. In particular, it’s possible the engine is being flooded. To resolve that depends on how the engine is set up and what sort of controls are in place. If you want a quick resolution, just request a no start diagnostic and the responding certified mechanic will get this taken care of for you.
