Q: Engine light on

asked by on February 20, 2017

Check engine light stays on & when driven the car shakes and I smell gas.

My car has 163000 miles.
My car has an automatic transmission.

Check engine lights are just an indication to the operator that there has been a failure in the system and the computer will store a failure code for the failure. The problem you are having may be a misfire in one or more cylinders for shorted ignition coils from oil leaks. Have the computer tested and any codes tested to isolate the issue you are having.
