I replaced my oil pressure sensor and the check engine light remained on even after resetting the code and an oil change. Nothing is leaking and oil guage never goes above the halfway mark on the guage. I drove it around for 30 min. 2011 dodge grand caravan. Mechanic's Assistant: Does the light stay on, or does it blink? Stay on Mechanic's Assistant: Are you fixing your Grand Caravan yourself? What have you tried so far? Yes, myself. I purchased a new sensor and replaced it yesterday. I did an oil change today as it needed one and i needed to replace the drip pan plug due to worn out seal. Two days ago, we had Midas replace the power steering pump and coolant reservoir. No lights were on when we took it in and when i picked it up the check engine light was on. Took it back and the code was for the oil pressure sensor. They wanted to charge 600 bucks for something that only took me 30 minutes to do myself... I had a friend come over to reset the code but the check engine light came back on and read the same code for the oil pressure sensor. Mechanic's Assistant: Anything else you want the Mechanic to know before I connect you? Thats about it.

Hello there! Sorry to hear about your Caravan having issues. Let's see if we can figure it out. What were the trouble codes?

P0520 i believe
Automotive Expert
Thank you for that information. P0520 certainly pertains to the oil pressure switch concern. Do you have a gauge on the dash or just a oil warning lamp? Is the gauge reading properly or is the oil warning lamp on?

No oil warning lamp came on or blinked. Just the check engine light came on and stayed on. The oil temp gauge never went passed normal after driving foe 30 minutes. Dipstick before oil change read a tad below full but after oil change reads full.

Ok, you may have received a faulty switch from the parts supplier or possibly have a wiring problem. Give me a moment to check my database for any common issues. OK, just checking - there are two sensors next to each other. The top one is the oil temperature sensor and the one right below it is the oil pressure sensor - just wanted to verify you changed the lower one? (both are under the upper intake manifold).

I did see two wires that were in that area. I only changed the sensor but not the wiring. It would be the top one i changed.
Automotive Expert
2 wire connector goes to the oil "temperature" sensor and 3 wire connector goes to the oil "pressure" sensor. Ok, the top one is the oil temperature sensor - I would try putting the old one back in and purchasing and installing the one below it for the oil pressure (3-wire connector) - then try clearing the code and seeing if it resets. If the code returns then you may have a wiring problem between the PCM (vehicle computer) and oil pressure switch or possibly a faulty PCM.

Im confused lol, the one i changed is the oil pressure switch and i had to buy the special socket for it as well. The part i reconnected had three flat looking prongs on the inside. I connected the wire and it clicked in to place.

Attached is a image of the oil pressure switch - labled with number 2

That is the one. I guess i remembered wrong.
Automotive Expert
Sorry, we got a bit lost here, but that's ok ;) If you changed the part with the number 2 then that was correct.

How hard is it to change out the wiring myself?
Automotive Expert
You will have to due some testing at the switch to check the wiring - is that something you can handle? Would need a volt meter.

I could aquire one, i am sure. I just don't really mess with wiring but i am down to learn something new.
Automotive Expert
Ok. Give me a moment - I will upload an illustration of the wires for when you are ready to test.

With the oil pressure switch disconnected and the vehicle key in the second position - Pin 1 the brown/orange wire should read 5-volts DC (meter connected between [battery](/topics-battery-dodge/) negative post and touching the BR/OR wire at the connector). Pin 3 the dark blue and dark green wire should be a ground wire and will read 12-13 volts DC (with meter connected between battery positive post and touching DB/DG wire at connector). Pin 2 is the violet/gray wire - this is the signal wire and should read 5 volts DC disconnected I believe (meter connected to battery negative post and touching VT/GY wire at connector. I know it is a lot of information but of you are missing any of these readings you may have a pinched or broken wire or possibly a faulty PCM.

Anything else I may assist you with today?

That is all for now. I appreciate your help and your time. Maybe i will get my 13 year old son to help his mama out. Have a good day.
