- If you check the transmission oil, is it low, discolored, or does it have a bad odor?
- Remove both battery cables, hold them together for one minute, then reconnect to the battery. Still, have transmission issues?
- Is the vehicle 4x4?
- Will it roll in neutral but not in park?
- Will it start in neutral?
- Do the reverse lights work?

**for some weird reason it was trying to roll back,** was that while the shifter was in park?
If you try R or D then shift back to park, does it grind?

Your transfer case is stuck between low and high. This is causing the transfer case to be in neutral, which results in no moving gears working and rolling in park and grinding in park.
Try shifting the transfer case then retest. If that fails then remove the shift motor and shift the transfer case manually with a wrench. If you are not able to shift into 4 high or 2wd and get the transmission working. Then the transfer case needs to be removed to inspect it internally.
