Hi, my car needs the break lights repaired. They dont turn on.
Mechanic's Assistant: Have you checked the brake fluid? How's the level and when was it last changed?
No. I haven't checked the break fluid. Will it do a difference on a 2016 chevy traverse?
Mechanic's Assistant: Are you fixing your Traverse yourself? What have you tried so far?
No. I tried to take it to the dealership where I bought it from. They told me the warranty covered it this past Thursday and they made a commitment to fix it on Monday. Then I had told them I would come in Tuesday instead. On Tuesday they said my miles had gone over the warranty limit. I was pretty upset they set up an appointment for Monday if I would still no qualify Monday after the miles were verified and checked the Thursday before. Now I'm trying to figure out what I can do with 19 miles over the warranty.
Mechanic's Assistant: Anything else you want the Mechanic to know before I connect you?
How much would it cost to fix the it?

Hello and thank you for using JustAnswer. My name is \*\*\*\*\* \*\*\*\*\* I’ll be glad to assist you with your question today. I am an ASE certified technician and Service Manager with over 20 years of hands on experience helping to provide solutions for my customer’s issues. My experience includes both dealership and independent repair facilities in technical and customer facing roles, so I have the ability to handle the technical aspects and communicate them efficiently and effectively as possible. You may accept or decline that offer at your discretion. This is an optional service so if you’re interested I would be happy to speak with you instead of typing/texting back and forth.

As I am not there, you might be asked to work as my eyes and ears to help gather basic information to help identify and resolve your specific problem. As I don’t know your level of expertise, please don’t be offended if the questions I ask seem rudimentary, I am simply trying to guide you through the issue as simply and accurately as possible.
My aim is to give you the best service possible by providing an accurate answer. Unfortunately, as you may be aware an accurate answer is not always a popular answer. Sometimes it will take me time to respond as I review your information, compare it to my resources and think through the potential options to ensure my answer is as accurate as possible. Is this a used vehicle that you purchased from the dealership? How many miles are on it?

So if the warranty expired it will be a decision made by the dealership. The factory warranty is out on the vehicle but most dealerships should resolve this for you. I would contact your salesperson and let them know what happened. The sales and service are different departments and sometimes they can apply pressure on the service department to help you. If not then you'll need to speak with the General Manager of the dealership.
Unfortunately they are technically correct with the warranty as they are not legally obligated to honor it if you are outside of the warranty window. It now becomes a conversation around them not being able to inspect your vehicle and the warranty expiring between the time you requested service and when you brought it in to the dealership.

Now why would the service guy make an appointment on a day that would be past the warranty? I feel that it was a deliberate attack. I told him I had no money for repairs and I was heavily relying on the warranty.

Yes, that is the issue that you need to argue. I think you have a really good point. On their side, they switched the day but that does not have anything to do with the mileage.
Is this a professional dealership or a local car lot?

It would be rare that the service director or sales director would not side with you on this issue. If the service advisor won't help then you need to escalate it until you get someone who will approve the repairs. Here would the be proper escalation:
1. The person who sold you your car
2. The sales director
3. The general manager of the dealership
