Ok, I realize factory oil was Mobile 1 Synthetic and Synthetic is required in 5W-30 or 10W-30. Now, you will be fine just doing another oil change, The tiny little bit left in [engine](/topics-engine-chevy/) is nothing that will not mix nor hurt the synthetyic going back in., I do not feel any damage was done but that stated is between you and the shop. We swap out Conv to synthetic all the time and is norm in the industry. No harm done at all if you do another oil change since so little miles since wrong added. One may? want to let the engine sit for a couple days prior to oil change to allow near all oil to drain back to oil pan and then you are good. Hope this makes sense

Questions: 1. Please explain your statement, "We swap out Conv to synthetic all the time and is norm in the industry." 2. You have recommended letting the engine sit for a couple days prior to the oil change to allow all oil to drain back to oil pan. I will have to drive the car back to the shop to get the oil changed. Given such, I'm assuming that I should instruct the mechanic to wait a few days before performing the oil change to allow all the oil to drain back to the oil pan? 3. My repair invoice states that the aforementioned regular conventional oil was used. It's possible that the mechanic will now claim that: (a) synthetic oil was used; and (b) a 'typo error' was made on my repair invoice. If the mechanic claims such, can I get the oil analyzed to verify such and if so, can you tell me where I can get the oil analyzed to address this issue?

I will try to explain, back shortly with advent of synthetic oils and semi synthetic oils many consumers decided to change from conv to synthetic and it is perfectly acceptable to do this./What little is left in engine will intermix and all is just fine,. Your engine has different design tolerances and thus why synth is what is required. Its by design and I do not know everything about that.I am trying to say.. with the exeption of the 2 oil cooler tubes that may hold a few tablespoons, if it is allowed to sit at least 24 hours after you drive there IMO that will allow the most oil to drain back to oil pan.Again what little bit sitting on top of the heads is nothing that will not intermix and you will be fine doing an oil change. If you can pull it off with the shop? 2 oil changes and problem is 100% solved. Do one run till warm, turn off and do another, It will be expensive and shop should consider? doing this As far as oil analyize? I do not know,. I never had to send any out, insurance companies do this and maybe call one /yours and ask a claim adjuster, Just a thought. As far as invoice? I would go on what they wrote and demand 2 oils changes to do as much flush as possible. I really can not help with that. 30 miles, conv oil and doing a correct oil change? your fine.,If you had driven thousands? that could affect long term life of the engine

Thanks Randall C. So I can show my mechanic your written advice, can you provide your: (1) last name or ID number; and (2) place of employment?

We are not permitted by Justanswer to provide personal information. I am sorry. Its by their rules and I can understand that as we experts/techs could be caught up with direct communication with customers outside of this format. You can provide my advice to them , your call but what I sent is my opinion and some may feel different. I have been a master tech for 38 years so not new to this. I do my best to try and help. I am in no position to try and pick a side, I can only explain what I did and my feelings on correction. As you know the fight is on your end.I feel your fine if things followed but.. you may not feel comfortable with that so you need to work it out with the shop if?? they made the errorand you need future protection and what I feel you want

Thanks again Randall. Take care.
