My car sent the "Charge Malfunction" message, I lost power steering. About 30 min to an hour later all systems shut down and my car is currently stuck at the Cheesecake Factory. My car has 153k miles. My car has an automatic transmission. Also, I’ve had my serpentine belt replaced about 3 months ago. But my last oil change through BMW dealership, it read too full for like a month or so. Can the oil have got to the drive belt or anything? 2011 BMW X5
Mechanic's Assistant: Is the power loss consistent, or does it fluctuate?
No it happened all in the same day. Never had the problem besides when I had to get my serpentine belt replaced. Also noticed, the [engine](/topics-engine/) oil level no longer says too full. Problem started a couple hours after I had to stop really hard in traffic a car jumped out. Maybe that could have something to do with something?
Mechanic's Assistant: Are you fixing your X5 yourself? What have you tried so far?
No I always go to bmw dealership.
Mechanic's Assistant: Anything else you want the Mechanic to know before I connect you?
Not that I can think of

Breaking down at the Cheesecake Factory does not sound all that bad. I had Cinnabon Cheesecake there last Monday. Your alternator is not charging, and that resulted in the battery dying. That is why all electrical systems have shut down. You will want to check the belt to make sure it's there, tight, and has no fluids on it. Next, you will need to inspect the alternator wiring. There is a high likelihood of this being an alternator failure. If you install a fully charged battery you can drive the car home or to a shop if it's within 30 miles and you run few electronics.
Thank you for seeking us for help, I hope I provided what was needed. Press reply if you need to follow up. If you liked my answer please let me know so I can mark your question complete. Moose
