Mechanic's Assistant: Have you ever replaced the fuel pump, or is this the original?
It was the original fuel pump we think, but now replaced
Mechanic's Assistant: Are you fixing your Elantra yourself? What have you tried so far?
Fixing the fuel pump and various fuses/relays
Mechanic's Assistant: Anything else you want the Mechanic to know before I connect you?
No I think that is it

Hello and welcome to Just Answer
My name is \*\*\*\*\* \*\*\*\*\* I've been an automotive engineer since 1996 and together we're going to solve this issue.
I understand that having your trusted vehicle let you down can be frustrating as it rarely occurs at a convenient time, however I will do my best to either help you make the repairs yourself or at least understand the issue so you know what is involved.
do you have any check engine or other fault light on ? If you do then plugging in a scan tool should be the next step as thats the fastest way to get a diagnosis
if there's no light then 1st check for spark by removing one of the spark plugs and plug it back into its lead and rest it on the metal of the engine ( DO NOT hold it on place by hand) then have your assistant turn the engine over whilst you watch the plug. It should give a fat blue spark at regular intervals.
If there’s no spark then next check a coil pack using a voltmeter. If there’s 12V at the pack but no spark then check the ECU power supply (fuse and relay) in the under hood fusebox and also the connections to the crankshaft speed sensor.
if you have a OBD scan tool that can do monitoring then plug that it and crank the engine to see if you get an engine speed / rpm signal flagging up, if you don't then replace the crank sensor
If this is OK then check that the injectors are being operated by the ECU, its hard to hear them ‘clicking’ with back ground noise so if you use a screwdriver like a stethoscope with one end placed against the body of the fuel injector while your assistant cranks the engine
The injectors should ‘click’ as they are cycled on and off
If you can't hear anything check the ECU power is present by measuring voltage at the fusebox and on its relay socket if OK then check the connections to the crank speed sensor and consider replacing this sensor if the wiring / connections look OK
If the car will start using a squirt of quick/ easi start into the intake then this confirms the problem is lack of fuel
Also its worth checking that the electric pump that feeds the injectors is working correctly, it should run for a few seconds then switch off when you first turn the ignition on. If you remove the filler cap to the fuel tank and listen inside while your assistant flicks the ignition you should hear it clearly
If the connections to this are corroded or damaged then the pump could stop at any time. Check that its relay switches in and out and the relay contacts are clean and bright – replace the relay if in any doubt and do the same for the fuse, ideally measure the voltage at the pump and check its getting 12V.
You should be getting around 3 bar measured at the injector rail check to see if the plugs are getting wet indicating fuel is flowing – if not and the injectors are opening then there’s a problem with the pump or the filter or even the pressure regulator

This is possibly a transmission shifter adjustment issue (5th gear, non-engagement). The noise issue may be related, but it is potentially serious regardless. You don't mention what kind of "transmission problems" caused you to have the clutch repaired, but that...
Hello there, with the 2002 CL500 and many other older vehicles it is not uncommon to develop vibration issues. The most common causes would be a damaged rim, out-of-balance tire, failed strut (https://www.yourmechanic.com/services/strut-assembly-replacement) or shock (https://www.yourmechanic.com/services/shock-absorber-replacement), or another failed suspension...
Hi there. The MAP/Turboboost sensor (https://www.yourmechanic.com/services/manifold-absolute-pressure-sensor-map-sensor-replacement) is located either on the intake near the throttle body or along the fire wall with a vacuum hose attached to it. It could be an internal tranfercase noise, but I wouldn't jump to that conclusion yet. The noise could be coming from the front driveshaft, CV axles, ect. Anything that's turning when the four-wheel drive is engaged could be the culprit....
