The lower control arm bushings split cracked and loose. Dealer advised to remove lower control arms from vehicle and press out the bushings and replace with new one. Plus, re-alignment of wheels. Dealer sent me picture, and from picture it looks like ball joint. I am not sure what is the best way to get this repair done. Should I replace lower control arm along with ball joint and bushings or just individual part that was recommended by dealer. Do these parts come separately or are they available as one assembly? Please advice.

The components on the lower arm are vended separately so you can refurbish an existing arm or you can buy a pre-assembled complete control arm (arm, bushings, and ball joint all installed). The pre-assembled left and right control arms, as vended by Subaru, are OEM part nos. 20202AJ05A and 20202AJ09A. If you buy those control arms (complete, pre-assembled) on the Internet from a Subaru dealer, each arm is roughly $135, not including shipping or tax. Aftermarket units (not recommended) are probably anywhere from $75 each, on up. As far as your best option, that depends on what the dealer is proposing to charge you to replace the bushings. You now know what it will cost you to purchase the complete OEM arms and YourMechanic will install parts that a customer supplies. If you supplied the control arms, you would only be charged for the installation labor which is probably less than $200 (total, for both sides). Once the repair is complete, the alignment should be checked, and adjusted as needed, at a reputable shop. Among other requirements, a reputable shop is one that will give you before and after readings on ALL measurements (cross camber, thrust angle, etc.) and, as well, be willing to set the vehicle to the preferred factory alignment settings and not just set the alignment "anywhere" in the range published in the service manual. If you desire to have this repair performed by a YourMechanic professional, please use the on-line request form at YourMechanic’s control arm service request page. At the foregoing link, if you want to supply your own parts, when reviewing your quote online, just open the “price breakdown” tab, and click on “parts options.” From there, you can choose to remove all the YourMechanic supplied parts from your quote leaving only the labor charge. If you have further questions or concerns, do not hesitate to re-contact YourMechanic because we want you to make the most of your repair dollars and help you to get the best possible results.
