Rattling noice when I rev the car but when it idles it makes no noice and I took it to a mechanic and they said it could be this one tensioner and pulley so I got the parts but I took it to another place just to make sure and they said it was the chains that they were loose so idk who to believe but would the symptoms of the chain be ? And also when i sprayed water where the pulleys are the noice went away for 10 seconds so I’m not sure if it’s that or it’s actually the chains

Good Afternoon, my name is \*\*\*\*\* \*\*\*\*\* ill be helping you, so sorry to hear about the issues here on the Audi. Have you noticed any hard starts or timing codes set recently?

No it started very normal like it should and no timing codesBut just sometimes when i started the car it usually revéd itself a little more than it should when starting a cold start but other that everything else normal

okay thank you, \*\*\*\*\* \*\*\*\*\* the case then you will likely be dealing with a drive belt/pulley issue. these Audi models were very notorious for timing issues however they almost always set codes when that happens. i would recommend you have a mechanical removing the serpentine belt and run the car for a few minutes that way to see if the noise goes away. if it does it will be pulley/tensioner/belt related which is what i suspect here.

I also have a question on code 17843 secondary air injection pump relay short circuit and p2257 air system control a circuit low! I have replaced the secondary air pump thinking it was that and no the code still came up and then replaced the relay and still came back on and I’m pretty the relay for that is by the motor right but yeah any idea why it might keep coming up

Hello. Is this related about the initial pulley question you had?

It’s actually about some codes and I think it might actually be the chains and stuff actually now but I wanna tell you what the codes are and see if you can help

P0349 is a timing related code however it’s not a mechanical issue. it’s an electrical related code with the camshaft position sensor so it would not cause the noise and would be an unrelated issue.

that would set if we had the P0349 code. we would need to figure out that cam sensor issue first and then go from there.

I was told it could be the timing chai and timing cam tensioner and maybe timing belt sense it does seem now to start pretty hard

the code you have is an electrical code for the cam sensor so no based on the codes you have now I do not suspect a mechanical timing issue like I mentioned.

if I take off the belt and it still rattles when I rev you think it will the chains
Daniel Chaidez

That does make it seem that it will be a timing issue yes. I would still recommend we figure out the electrical issue first and then look into a mechanical timing issue.
Customer

you recommend I replace the timing sensor first and see what happens from there

I actually erased the codes and the check engine light came back on but I didn’t have those codes anymore so I’ll just have to keep checking and see if it comes back on with those codes I mentioned

Okay sounds good.
Still not sure what you need?
Have a certified mobile mechanic diagnose what's wrong with your car, at your home or office.
If the transmission is not shifting gears even after a fluid service, the problem may be internal transmission failure. I do not suggest driving a vehicle with these symptoms as you risk damage to the engine. You will need to...

You say you turned off the engine as soon as the vehicle was stopped. Does this mean the engine still runs? The VTM-4 light is for the traction control (https://www.yourmechanic.com/article/how-does-traction-control-work) and you may have a problem with the system, which...
The PCV system on this engine is incorporated into the air filter housing and has no serviceable parts. If there is excessive oil in the air filter housing then the entire housing would need to be replaced as an assembly....

There are several such sites. If you are looking for used spare parts, the enormous catalog/database at www.car-part.com (http://www.car-part.com) is one of the better ones. Obviously, if you are looking for new spare parts, such are already vended by VIN...
Hi there. Assuming your vehicle has ETC (electronic throttle control) (https://www.yourmechanic.com/services/throttle-controller-replacement), "drive-by-wire" problems can develop when cleaning is performed. Manually opening the throttle plate may have affected the close position. An idle relearn performed with a capable scanner may resolve...
Hello - you still have problems with your transmission (https://www.yourmechanic.com/article/does-an-automatic-transmission-have-a-clutch), most likely in the valve body. This is a common problem with this model transmission, and requires a rebuild or replacement of the valve body to correct. The problem codes...
Hi there. The ticking noise in this case most likely was coming from the cylinder heads (or the top of the engine) and the components inside that were not receiving enough lubricant (oil) as the engine runs. Most of the...
