Car was rough idle and stalling at lights. Ran great under acceleration. Changed the intake manifold gasket. Car now is hard to start but once started idles great but smells like its running rich. And will stall intermittently when put in gear. Replaced the map sensor and still having same issue. Could this be crankshaft position sensor? Where else do I need to look?
My car has 230000 miles.

Hi Kathryn. Thanks for contacting us today. There are a few possible sources of these problems. The first item would be the intake manifold gasket is possibly not sealing correctly. In most cases, it’s due to the wrong gasket being used or the gasket not creating a full seal. It could also be due to a vacuum leak, or even an EGR valve that is not working correctly. The crankshaft position sensor is an ignition timing component, so I wouldn’t suspect this as causing the excessive fuel smell. Before you attempt further repairs, it’s probably better to have a professional mechanic come to your location to complete an on-site inspection first, so they can isolate the source of these problems and recommend the right repairs.
