Q: '91 Corolla making rapid rattling sound under hood. Is something loose?

asked by on January 08, 2018

1991 Toyota Corolla making very noisy rattling sound in idle/park/reverse. Is something loose? I've already had the starter, battery, alternator, fuel filter and spark plugs ALL replaced in just the past 2 months. The sound began after the mechanic's last service on the car, could he have knocked something loose?

There are many components that can cause rattling, ranging from the exhaust system to accessory drives and pulleys to even certain internal engine malfunctions or a loose/faulty torque converter or flex plate. In addition, there can be multiple (coincident) causes. The only way to get the origin of the noise pinpointed is through a first hand diagnostic. If you request a vehicle noise diagnostic, the responding certified mechanic will pinpoint the origin of the noise, explain the required repairs and get this issue taken care of for you.
