What is the Air Pump all about?

Decades ago, exhaust systems were pretty simple. The spent gases vented from the engine through the exhaust manifold, into the exhaust pipe, and then out through a muffler. However, stricter environmental laws and regulations have significantly impacted today’s automotive exhaust systems. Also known as the smog pump, this secondary air injection system essentially pushes air into the exhaust system to help ensure that all unburned fuel is combusted.   • You need an operational smog pump to pass your emissions test.
