A car title is a very important document to possess. This is the document that proves you are the owner of your vehicle. Without the title you won't be able to sell your vehicle or transfer ownership of it. While you may try hard to store it someplace safe, things can still happen and you may end up losing it over time, or even having it stolen. If that's the case, the best course of action is to obtain a duplicate car title.
For those who live in the state of Tennessee, this duplicate title can be obtained through the Tennessee Department of Revenue (DOR). The process has been created to be smooth and fast so that you can get your car title as quickly as possible. You have the option of applying for the title in person by visiting the local County Clerk's office, or by mail, whichever you find to be the most convenient. Here is a look at the process.
In person
For those who opt to obtain the duplicated title in person, it can be done at the County Clerk's office in your town/city. You will need to fill out the Application for a Duplicate Certificate of Title (Form RV-F1321801).
When you go to submit your information, be sure you have your lien notice if this applies to you, and proper ID.
There is a fee of $11 to have the duplicate title made.
By mail
Again you will need to fill out Form RV-F1321801, provide a lien discharge notice if it applies to you, and include a check for $11.
This information can be mailed to your local Count Clerk's office.
