If you need an SUV that lives up to the name “full-size SUV”, the 2012 Nissan Armada just might be your best option. With up to eight passenger seating and a 317-horsepower V8 engine that hauls 9,000 pounds with ease, the Armada is designed for those who need plenty of room for the family but also want to take some toys along too.
Key Features
In addition to the sheer capacity of this SUV, which can be boosted to 97 cubic feet with fewer passengers, it also features a 5-speed automatic transmission with a towing mode and 4-wheel ABS. Some of the amenities in this model include power windows, locks and outside mirrors, which are also heated. Adjustable pedals and a driver’s seat that adjusts eight ways ensures a proper fit for most drivers, while air conditioning in the front and back and a six-disc CD changer in the dash makes sure everyone is comfortable and entertained on those long trips. The 2012 also has head-curtain airbags for all three rows of seating and side-impact airbags in the front for added safety.
For those who upgrade to the SL model, they’ll also get all the upgrades. The SL features keyless start and entry, a RearView Monitor, a power liftgate and third row seating with power folding. You’ll also get leather throughout with front heated seats and a rear suspension with auto-leveling for a smooth ride.
Changes in This Model Year
The 2012 Nissan Armada saw only a few upgrades to both the SL and Platinum trim. The SL saw a power liftgate and heated front seats become standard, while the Platinum includes heated second-row seating and a center armrest with padding for those that choose the Captain’s chairs option as standard.
What We Like
We like the bold, edgy styling that makes the 2012 Armada stand out, as well as the built-in tech features such as Bluetooth and GPS.
What Concerns Us
The overall size and bulk make the Armada a bit tricky to drive in smaller areas. For those that don’t necessarily need the power, a lighter seven-passenger vehicle might be easier to handle. There is also a recall for the 2012 Armada due to the rim size not being on the certification labels.
Available Models
There are three options available for the 2012 Armada, including the SL and Platinum options. Each model delivers a 5.6-liter V8 engine that offers 317 @ 3400 RPM horsepower and 385 @ 3400 RPM torque. All models provide 16 mpg city and 24 mpg highway gas mileage.
Major Recalls
There is one major recall that has been issued for this vehicle. The certification label does not list the rim size, which could result in the wrong rim and tire combination.
Common Issues
The most common issues reported for the 2012 Nissan Armada are stalling and the parking brake cable snapping.
