A brake booster makes it easier to push the brake pedal. It is a vacuum assist system. If the car did not have a brake booster, it would be very hard to push the brake pedal and stop the car. The brake booster is located underneath the hood in the engine compartment, behind the brake master cylinder.
The most common reason why a brake booster fails is because the master cylinder is leaking. Your mechanic should inspect the master cylinder to ensure there are no leaks.
If you notice a clear fluid underneath your car or on the wheels, get it inspected as soon as possible. Do not drive the car with brake fluid leaking. It can make the brakes weaker and eventually lead to brake failure.
All services associated with proper function of your brakes are important. In addition to safety issues, ignoring small repairs can quickly lead to more serious (and more expensive) problems.
