I have a 2001 toyota rav4. the other day it lost power and the radiator was spewing out hot vapor as if my car was hot. i have cracks in my radiator but i manage my coolant well and watch my thermostat. I added some water to it before driving it that day but i didnt top it off and I never have had it get hot regardless of the cracks at the top of my radiator . i baby it. I lost power at stop sign, started it back up and pulled immediately to an opposite corner of the 4 way ( gas station parking lot) when i went to park it lost power and started steaming from hood (hood wont close) the thermostat was at normal operating level the whole drive up until now and when the car lost power. I popped cap, released pressure, let it cool for 10 minutes and filled with coolant/water mix. next couple starts it wouldnt idle. now it wont start. it turns over and tries but it wont. i have check engine codes (one may be old): p1135, p1155, p0115, p0300, p0301, p0302,p0303, p0304. please help.

One of the codes (P0115) refers to the coolant temperature switch circuit. If the circuit has a fault, you may be getting a false indication of the actual, and perhaps too high, engine operating temperature. The cooling system is pressurized in operation. Consequently, if there are any leaks at all the system will malfunction, there will be internal boiling, creation of air pockets, and thence possible false reporting of an actual overheating condition. The cooling system should be repaired coincident to a no start diagnostic. As far as the other codes, the two relating to the O2 sensor heater circuit refer to mundane heater failures which are easy to test for. Misfiring (P0300, etc.) is typically due to faulty spark plugs, too lean operation, vacuum leaks and so forth. Your best entree to getting all of this promptly resolved is to request a no start diagnostic. After an inspection, the mechanic will get the car running and advise you of all needed repairs to restore the car to reliable, safe operation.
