What color is engine oil

Hi there. Typically, motor oil is a light syrup color before it is poured into an engine. As the engine runs, carbon deposits from burned fuel become infused inside the oil particles, which causes the oil to darken to a deep brown or black color as it wears out. Some engine oils, like synthetics or high performance racing engines have special dyes that make it a different color; like red or blue. If the oil is a milky white or foamy color, this is often an indication of a blown head gasket or coolant inside the oil. It’s always a good idea to have your oil changed every 5,000 miles.
